Auricular Acupuncture
Auricular acupuncture was introduced in 1951 by Dr. Paul Nogier, a French medical research scientist. Dr Nogier recognized the external surface of the ear as a micro-system using point locations to diagnose and treat health conditions, the ear is a micromap of the body, laid out like an upside-down fetus. One of the coolest things about Auricular Acupuncture is that you can treat the ENTIRE body through points in the ear.
But how does it work? A growing number of studies have demonstrated that ear acupuncture promotes the release of endogenous endorphins such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine (the “feel good” neurotransmitters.) Another reason it may be so effective is that the unique innervation of the ear allows an acupuncturist to access several cranial nerves.
Auricular acupuncture treatment can be completed using very thin acupuncture needles during a session or vaccaria seeds may be placed for extended periods of treatment. The seeds placed with a small piece of adhesive tape are left on the ear for several days.
